UX writing cheat sheet
A working library of calls to action, organized by what the user is actually trying to do. The label should follow the intent, so the fastest way to pick the right one is to start with the moment, not the word. Match the verb to where the user is, keep it to two CTAs per view, and test the ones that carry real money.
Buy and convert
The primary action on a product or checkout page.
Shop now, Buy now, Add to cart, Order now, Check out, Complete your order, Place your order, Get it now, Get this deal, Claim this deal, Get started.
Start a trial or free plan
Lower the risk and get them in the door.
Start your free trial, Try it free, Try for free, Start free, Get started free, Join free for a month, Take it for a spin.
Sign up and create an account

Generate a lead
Higher-consideration actions where a human or a form is next.
Get a quote, Request a demo, Book a demo, Talk to sales, Contact us, Contact me, Book a call, Schedule a consult, Get in touch.
Explore and learn
Top of the funnel, where the user is still deciding.
Learn more, See how it works, Explore, Discover more, Browse, View all, See more, Read more, Watch the video, Take a look, See what's next, Tell me more, Find out more.
Download or grab a resource
Download, Get the guide, Grab the template, Get the checklist, Get the ebook, Save a copy.
Help the user decide
For comparison and higher-stakes choices.

Create urgency (use it honestly)
Only when the scarcity or deadline is real.
Claim your spot, Save your seat, Lock in the price, Ends tonight, Only a few left, Get it before it's gone.
Refer and share
Share it, Invite a friend, Refer a friend, Send this along, Spread the word, Give a gift.
Secondary and low-commitment
The opt-out beside a primary action. Just as important, and usually an afterthought.
Maybe later, Not now, Skip for now, No thanks, Remind me later, I'll decide later.
Confirm and success states
You're all set, All set, All done, You're good to go, Success, Confirmed, Done, Nice work.
Errors and empty states
The action that gets a stuck user moving again.
Try again, Refresh, Reload, Go back, Start over, Browse instead, Take me home.
While they wait
Loading and progress messages, kept human.
Hang tight, Almost there, Just a second, Working on it, Good things take a moment.
Onboarding and flow control
Continue, Next, Take the tour, Skip, Finish, Do this later.
Strong CTA verbs
The building blocks. Lead with one of these and the rest of the label writes itself.
Get, start, try, buy, book, join, claim, unlock, discover, build, upgrade, explore, save, download, register.
Playful and brand-voice options
Use where the voice earns it, and never at the expense of clarity.
Let's go, I'm in, Count me in, Are you in?, Let's do this, Answer the call, Give it to me, Show me.
